TTS is authorised to provide Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) accredited electric vehicle (EV) upskill training.
Transport Training Services is responding to industry demand by offering training on electric/hybrid vehicles for fully qualified technicians, working in the light vehicle sector, that need to learn how to safely maintain and repair electric or hybrid vehicles, or anyone with existing knowledge that wants to be certified to demonstrate competence.
Driven by targets set by government to enable adoption of zero emission cars and vans, there is a very real need to increase technician competence and in turn, consumer confidence that electric and hybrid vehicles can be maintained properly and safely.
TTS offer a range of electric/hybrid courses. This Level 2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Routine Maintenance Activities (ref 603/1466/7) is a two-day course for experienced mechanics/technicians, which enables successful candidates to work safely around EV/hybrid vehicles and includes vehicles that may have damage to their high voltage system.
This training reduces the risk of accidents with these high voltages and the qualification helps employers meet their ‘duty of care’ under the Electricity at Work Regulations, to prevent danger when carrying out work on electrical systems.
As Northern Ireland’s premier motor industry training specialist, TTS has acquired a range of new hybrid vehicles to ensure learners are training on the most up-to-date vehicle specifications.
This qualification is an official entry route into the IMI TechSafe™ recognition, which will allow you to gain your place on the Professional Register to demonstrate that you are competent in your role, and are up to date with the latest of technology and knowledge.
Course Cancellation: No refund will be made for any candidate who fails to attend or does not complete the course. Cancellations or changes must be made within a specified timeframe before the course date, otherwise full fees will be charged and no refund will be made. The cancellation policy for this course is 2 working days prior to the course start date. If a booked course is cancelled within the 2 working day period, a fee of £100+VAT will be charged.

What is Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Training?
In its ‘The Road to Zero’ strategy document, the Department for Transport outlined plans to enable adoption of alternative fuel vehicles and set out targets for emission reductions. For cars and vans the aim is to end the sale of new conventional petrol and diesel models by 2040 with the intention of almost every car and van being zero emission by 2050.
The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) recognised a need to develop skills amongst the vehicle technician workforce to assure motorists that electric and hybrid vehicles can be maintained properly and safely. Not only is this an imperative safety initiative for technicians working on these high voltage vehicles, but it should also inspire confidence in the general public to increase uptake of these zero or low emission vehicles. The IMI has launched this training as part of its ‘Campaigns for Change’.
This course has been developed to give you the practical skills and confidence you need to be able to work safely on high voltage vehicles.
Who Is this Course For?
Keeping up with increasingly sophisticated and rapidly changing vehicle technology is imperative if you want your skills to be relevant for the cars of today and the future.
This course is suitable for vehicle technicians, working in the light vehicle sector, that need to learn how to safely maintain electric or hybrid vehicles, or anyone with existing knowledge that wants to be certified to demonstrate competence.
The course has been developed to give you the practical skills and confidence you need to be able to work safely on high voltage vehicles. It is designed for those people who may encounter electric/hybrid vehicles within a routine maintenance situation and also contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely around a vehicle that may have had damage to its high energy/electrical system.
What are the Pre-Requisites for this Course?
Individuals interested in taking this course will need to possess appropriate vehicle maintenance and repair knowledge and skills at level 2.
How Long Does This Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Course Take?
This is a two-day course with individuals assessed against industry-agreed standards.
Will I Achieve a Qualification?
Participants on the course will be issued with internationally recognised certification from the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) upon completion of the course at TTS.
What Does this Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Level 2 Course Cover?
This course covers:
· Electric/hybrid vehicle system components and operation
· Hazards surrounding electric/hybrid vehicles
· How to reduce the risks to yourself and others when working on electric/hybrid vehicles
· Safely preparing the vehicle when carrying routine maintenance (NOT high voltage components or systems)
Can This Training be Delivered at our Premises?
This training is usually delivered at our training facility in Nutts Corner but on-site training can be arranged on request.
