12-Week Practical Leisure Evening Programme

This 12-week Automotive Repair and Maintenance course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence required to carry out routine vehicle maintenance and basic repairs safely and effectively.

Suitable for beginners and those wishing to refresh existing skills, the programme combines classroom instruction with hands-on workshop experience, enabling learners to gain a practical understanding of common automotive systems and maintenance procedures.

Throughout the course, participants will develop practical skills in the following areas:

Essential Maintenance and Servicing

  • Oil and filter replacement
  • Fluid level inspection and replenishment
  • Spark plug replacement
  • Tyre inspections and maintenance
  • Pre-MOT vehicle checks

Brake Systems

  • Disc and brake pad replacement
  • Calliper wind-back procedures
  • Brake component inspection and measurement
  • Safe working practices when servicing braking systems

Suspension and Steering

  • Replacement of shock absorbers and springs
  • Drop link replacement
  • Track rod end replacement
  • Inspection of steering and suspension components

Exhaust and Electrical Systems

  • Exhaust component replacement and repair
  • Battery maintenance and replacement
  • Vehicle lighting systems
  • Fuse diagnosis and replacement
  • Introduction to multimeter use and basic electrical testing

Vehicle Trim and Body Components

  • Safe removal and refitting of bumpers
  • Headlight removal and installation
  • Door card and trim panel removal
  • Correct handling of clips and fasteners to prevent damage

Practical Vehicle Workshops

Participants will have the opportunity to apply newly acquired skills to their own vehicles during dedicated supervised workshop sessions.
